It seems like marketers everywhere are buying into the idea that the reason why they're not making any money is because they're not generating enough leads in their business. I can't begin to count all of the different advertisements on the internet that target marketers- claiming to have a solution to their lead generation problems. Marketers flock to these different software programs, tools, or whatever, hoping to pull in some much needed leads for their business only to find themselves broke & frustrated.
Lead Generation made simple (fishing analogy)
One of my favorite hobbies is fishing. In my tackle box is a variety of bait. Some of them are artificial, & some live. The purpose for having a variety of bait is because all fish do not bite the same bait. Worms work better when catching "Spots" while shrimps work best when catching "Croakers". In other words, different bait for different fish. It would be a waste of time trying to catch a catfish with a top water bait when catfish are bottom feeders who rarely bite artificial bait, especially if it's on top of the water. So, why would you spend money on leads that are not "targeted" for your specific business.
Lead Generation (Application)
In the same way, leads are useless if they are not targeted leads. There are companies selling as many as 5,000 leads for as little as $25. I can just about guarantee that all of those type of leads are worthless. The leads that are going to make you money are those that are targeted for your type of business. You don't need more leads, you need "targeted Prospects."
I too, believed that lead generation was what I needed in order to make the type of money I wanted until I realized that leads, unless they were targeted for my particular niche was useless to me, and a waste of time & money.
Lead generation or Targeted prospects?
I know a guy who had thousands of subscribers, yet he only made a few hundred dollars per month. While, another guy I know had only a hundred or so subscribers, yet he made way more money than the other guy. It was because his leads were targeted. If you are promoting high ticket products, then low income leads are worthless to you. You need prospects who are financially able to purchase your high ticket item. That's the difference between leads & targeted prospects. How much different would your business be if you only had qualified leads in your funnel? For some of you, it may mean the difference between continuing in business or going back to a J.O.B.
Here are some tips for generating targeted leads:
Video Marketing
Video Marketing is a great way to generate targeted leads to your website or blog. You are able to use video to focus on a particular group of people. You're able to answer particular questions, give advice, and most of all advertise your products and services directly to your prospects. Videos help to build trust and attract only those people who "you" want to attract.
Article Writing:
Similar to video marketing (except without video) articles help to attract (through targeted key words) only those individuals who are actively seeking out the information that you're providing. If you write decent informative articles about niche topics, you will attract readers who will subscribe to your newsletter or purchase your products.
Paid Advertisement (PPC Pay per click):
Paid advertising can provide you with a great supply of targeted leads. The great thing about paid advertising is that you have more control over who sees your ad thus minimizing clicks from people who are not interested in your niche service/product. This is very important considering you have to pay every time someone clicks on your ad.
So, naturally you want to avoid having your ad clicked by people who aren't targeted for your niche. With paid ads, you can set a budget for your advertisement campaigns which is great because you don't want to over spend on ads especially if you are a beginner or new to paid advertisement. As you begin to make sales, you can track what is working for you and then maximize your efforts by re-investing back into that particular campaign that's working for you.
